With the arrival of November, attention turns to the holidays. Once again, the Zanesville South Holiday Parade approaches. Mollie Crooks, president of the Zanesville South Business Association, offers a glimpse at this year’s festivities.
“(The parade) is the major focus of the ZSBA, every year, and that its main focus is to promote the local businesses of South Zanesville while still trying to keep it entertaining.” Crooks said that the parade has been going on for over twenty years, and every year brings something new and different. Entries from classic cars, llamas, to school bands and choirs, even a train sitting on top of an alligator. That’s why it is the biggest parade in the area.
Entries will also have the opportunity to win a plaque. Floats will be judged in four categories: most original commercial entry, most non-original commercial entry, most original youth entry, and judge’s choice. Crooks said that even though there are usually about 150 entries that number is down from past years, but that it’s more about quality than quantity. Some of this year’s entries will include the Maysville High School marching band, classic cars, horses, and the man who everyone comes to see; Santa Clause.
The theme to this year’s parade will be Christmas around the world. This year’s parade will also have a new location. With lineup starting in the Southpointe Shopping Center between Speedway and Sheetz on Maysville Pike. From there it will take a 1.3 mile walk to EagleSticks Golf Club. Another surprise this year will be an appearance by Zanesville police officer Mike Schiele and his K-9 Partner, Bosco, serving as the grand marshals. Also serving as a grand marshal will be Bryan Grahm who won the opportunity by placing the winning bid on a special cake. The parade will be held on November 22, at 2:00 PM, rain or shine.
